Finishing the Frame and Legs
After the frame was assembled, my husband detached the legs and spent several hours sanding the frame and legs so all of the wood was extremely smooth. Then, over a period of several days, he applied four coats of Min-Wax to the wood (sanding each coat lightly with steelwool before applying the next coat). This gave the marimba a very nice smooth look. You'd never know that it was made out of common construction grade pine lumber purchased at the local hardware store!
